Shelly Woods Lights Up Heathrow

During the build up to the London 2012 Paralympic Games, British Airways is welcoming international Paralympic athletes arriving into Heathrow with a series of giant images projected on to the airline?s engineering hangars.??

The projections show ParalympicsGB athlete Shelly Woods with the wording ?Welcome to our manor? and are visible to competitors and passengers before touch down

The images have been displayed for thousands of passengers to see during the busiest two days for international athlete arrivals for the Paralympic Games (Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 August).

Images of Shelly run alongside the words ?Welcome to our manor? and? ?#HomeAdvantage? to encourage supporters and remind athletes from overseas that only one country has home advantage.

British Airways ambassador Shelly Woods, said: ?I was so thrilled to see my image welcoming the world to London for the Paralympic Games, what a great start to an exciting few weeks ahead.

?The support from the home crowd at the Olympic Games was absolutely terrific and really helped to spur Team GB on to glory. It will be really important to all of us competing in the Paralympic Games too.?

Extra powerful lumen projectors were used to create the images, the largest of which measures 58m x 18m ? the equivalent to 24 London Routemaster double decker buses.

As official airline partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the airline has supported athletes and their families from 26 Olympic and 20 Paralympic sports with flights to train and compete abroad. The airline is also the partner of the British Olympic Association and British Paralympic Association.

Luisa Fernandez, British Airways sponsorship manager, said: ?We are very excited about the Paralympic Games and wanted to give the athletes an extra boost in the run up to them ? we hope this celebratory message does just that.?

During the Games, the airline is hosting ?Park Live presented by British Airways? at the Olympic Park, where fans can come together and get behind our athletes while watching all the action on Europe?s largest outdoor LED screen.

Park Live is set within 250 acres of newly created parkland and provides the perfect setting for picnics, catching up on sport and getting up close to athletes that are interviewed on the BA Stage. More than 400,000 fans visited Park Live presented by British Airways during the Olympic Games.
